The Simpler Things In Life... Men...

Every time I get a new fashion mag home, the pati is the first one to open the seal, checkout the cover girl and browse through all the pictures after which I get the chance to go through it. So you can imagine what this must lead to... Yup a discussion on the cover girl, how pretty or un-pretty she looks, how her outfit is hot or not and of course how wearable or non-wearable her makeup is... I am always left amazed at how easily a guy glosses over the "overall" look and gives his verdict that are essentially one or two worded adjectives like "Hot", "Beautiful", "Bakwaas", "Sahi hai" and of course "Bhai Sahab"...

I on the other hand give out convoluted (for the pati) answers like "I like her overall makeup but the lip color is making her look aged" or "stunning outfit but would have looked nicer if she was a little more curvy"... This goes to show how critical and well detail oriented we women are... Nothing is perfect for us, our lives revolve around pointing out the nitty-gritties of things that don't even matter, while the guys seem to live a more straight forward life happy with a handful of adjectives to go by!
The most glaring example being the size of the natth donned by Sonam Kapoor at Cannes 2013. The fashion blogosphere went about how a smaller one would have suited her more while my guy friends were like "dude bigger or smaller, it would still be on her nose"...

Ummmm...

Yeah True!

Another example would be when the pati and I are discussing our mutual favorite Mila Kunis... He would go like "Man! She is something!" and I would be like "Yup! I totally love her eye makeup!" and he would in turn say "Oh! Woh makeup hai?"... I would look at him incredulously and ask "So what exactly do you like about her?" and he would start stuttering and after a while state with a nonchalant shrug say, "She looks good". For him, the discussion ends there! And I am left wanting to discuss more... More about her hair, her makeup, her wide-eyed look, her roles and the list goes on...

Ok, lets leave the pati alone... One day at work, my whole team decides to take a tea break together and the topic veers towards Aishwarya Rai... Well the events leading up to the point where a group of Software engineers start discussing Bollywood actresses could be varying but at that particular occasion it started with ads by Idea Cellular to Abhishek Bachchan to the erst-while Miss World... The guys in the team go all oooh aaah and collectively state how they all prefer Sushmita Sen to Aishwarya Rai... I pipe in "Yeah, Sushmita looks more intelligent than Aishwarya" and the whole table grows silent with everyone looking as if some kind of revelation hit them!

I wonder if it's a boon or a bane for us women that our men have such a simple and an uncomplicated way of looking at things... But I take it as a boon cause this gives me the opportunity to stop fretting over the minute flaws of mine that I keep obsessing about :)
